Quite: A Story Of A Life Lived

Quite: A Story Of A Life Lived

£6.75

When 16-year-old Roger Panton of the Windrush generation arrived in England from Jamaica in October 1959, he was devastated to find he was above the compulsory school age and therefore not entitled to continue his full time education. With two younger siblings still to come up from Jamaica; and having in London, his eldest brother in a military hospital; an older brother in engineering apprenticeship; and sisters aged 12 years and 5 years; plus, a baby brother of 20 months, going to work was Roger’s only option. This memoir is about how Roger put to good use the excellent educational start he had at high school in Jamaica and how during a wide ranging working life he managed to overcome the obstacles he encountered when his abilities, in the absence of academic qualifications, became a matter of suspicion. The title "Quite," is not a spelling error. It is exactly what a UK Government Minister said when Roger pointed out an error in a speech, he was helping the Minister to draft. Roger’s story of fortitude and determination is a guiding light to others who need to push the boundaries to achieve their full potential.
